I though it was against TOS to have ads placed inside a members area or private web pages requiring login.

Does webmail count as members areas?

I logged into www.mail2web.com and there are google ads in there.

Everyone has ads in their login areas:

Private Forums, trackers, and even other systems.

    Peace,

Only premimum members can do such ad placement.
Normal publishers are not allowed to put ad code in any email.

Placing AdSense inside members areas are ok. Placing AdSense inside email messages are NOT.
