I'm curious what people's take on the ads up top in the forum. In truth, I'm more interested in the statistics with the new AdSense channel reporting than the income (which I'm guessing isn't going to be a whole lot). The space that they occupy was empty space to begin with, so it does not expand the format in any direction. Nor will there ever be more than a single ad. But, if you tell me you will visit less often because of them, they will go away... - Shawn
I dont mind them in the slightest. I think I'm quite tolerant though, as long as they arent flashing gifs, of excessively invading content, I dont mind. Maybe as a web developer I appreciate more their money earning potential. So yes, no problem with those ads - call me crazy but I think discrete ads give a site a certain 'professionalism'.
I thought you should have had them here since the start. Running a forum isn't free, nor can you do it successfully without expending your time. Adsense ads are "classy" as far as I'm concerned and I'm not even bothered in the slightest that they are here.
Well, since I'm not web designer or graphic artist, any suggestions on color schemes for the AdSense? - Shawn
I would say, make the border the colour that the background is now, and make the background the same shade grey as the rest of the top. Text colours look good already. All IMHO, I dont claim to be a brilliant web designer either
I didn't even notice them until I read this thread and looked at the top of the screen. Guess that means I don't have a problem with them, or I subconsiously don't see them. Happens to me with TV ads as well. People say, "did you see that ad?" and I usually haven't. The ones that really annoy me are the ones in articles in the middle of pages. Up the top, down the side is fine with me.
Yes I agree the forum is a public service of a type even if it does bring you long term fame and fortune. So if you want to run a few ads go right ahead. Actually I notice that you are currently running some banners for linksmanger and kandoodle sp? Unless these guy are paying you real well I think the AdSense ads are much less intrusive. But as I say it is your call.
Shawn i found even ads that interested me and helped me - on your site ! and same applies to other sites with google adsense - some are so relevant that i rather consider them a value ADDED feature rather than any disturbance. as to colors you changed a lot the last few days .. the colors i prefer most is the classic google blue and may be the green .. but you need to feel comfortable with your own colors - because digitalpoint is your "home" !! one or several ads - never mind - and how much you get in return depends on wheter you have them in each TOPIC / thread - differnt tread = different topc = different adsense content = different additional information sources .. up to a few hundred $ a months (may be ) .. and that surely may help you to relax and focus on your work and fine services .. i seldom click ads - because i know the business has to pay extra - but if it really looks interesting then i really click - because my own site also costed ten thousands of $ so i knwo others also have to invest .. just keep on doing as you please .. BUT one point i am MISSING ( may be wrong thread HERE ) we all are professionals - earning money and making money from our job - even if the web site may be ALL free content - we all still get somehow money and also may have to share some of it for professional services used from OTHERS like from you .. ! i miss a paypal BOTTON somewhere on top of your pages to DONATE for your work and services offered i was looking already if you have anything for sale that could benefit me - but hola - all i really need is free so pls feel free to add a paypal button it makes life easier for you as well
Ads are ok. If/when I have page that qualifies for adsense, I'll probably sign up for it as well. I hate popups, and espessially those crap hovering ads, but adsense type ads are ok by me. Disappointed you're not making that much money with them though. I dream of my own adsense-financed caribbean island some day... Thomas.
