ads for ad group

My first ever adwords campaign has high CPC and quality scores for keywords from OK to poor. I'm trying to understand how i can improve the quality score and also lower the CPC.

I created one ad per adgroup with with about 10-20 keywords in an ad group. I used dynamic keyword insertion in the title and description with the understanding that the keyword the user typed will be shown in the ad. The result is that I still get some POOR quality score rating with reason shown as that "no ad is being shown for that keyword". Isn't Dynamic Keyword Insertion supposed to take care of this?

Do I have to create an ad variation for each and every keyword in an adgroup for a keyword to generate an ad?

I need a light bulb to light up here!

First suggestion would be to lower the number of kw's in your adgroups.

Google rewards relevancy. It's much easier to keep your kw/ad/landing page relevant to each other if you have ultra targeted ad groups.

The days of throwing 15-20 kw's in and letting it fly are gone, unless you have deep pockets.

Much easier to track smaller adgroups as well.
