AdLinks and Page Views

Those of you who started to use new AdLinks:

Did you see a change in Page Views starting from the date you put AdLinks code? I do... I'm using 3rd party counter at my pages and it always been very consistent with google reports (for page views), but starting from the moment I put AdLinks code - google counts almost twice more then before and twice more then my counter...

So, it seems like if I have standard google ad and AdLink, then every page view counts as two page views for google reporting...
I still hope it some kind of mistake, but wondering to know if somebody else experience the same situation.

what your seeing is normal, because if you have 2 ad units per page.. each page load will result in two ad impressions according to Google.. you're CTR etc. will be cut in half. This has always been the case.

Ok, good to know that. I've never run more then a single Google ad per page, so I was not aware about it.

I believe I read at this forums that multiple adblocks on a single page are only counted once. But I do not know myself. However comparing the number of page views according to my own counter with the adsense counter does give me this impression.

What is causing this is something else. When you click on a link within the adblock the user is redirected to a new page where they see several adblocks. This is counted as a second page view.
You can find more information at: Help > Ad links > What are the consequences of adlinks.

Names are probably different as those are a rough translation from the Dutch version.

Are you sure this is correct? I'm looking at my stats for the last month on sites that have been running 2 adds and the impressions from the log files are pretty close to the addsense stats. Within 5-10%, but if it coun't every impression as two I would think the logfiles would show about half as many impressions.

I'm pretty (well very) sure the impression count is for each adblock, therefore 2 adblocks count as 2 impressions. Not sure what happens when there aren't enough ads to display in the second block.

it counts the # of ad blocks served. It counts one impression if it only serves one ad block.

If you put up more than one block you are violating the TOS

Currently, AdSense publishers may place up to three ad units on one web page. Our system will detect the multiple ad units and will display unique ads to each ad unit. This system is optimized for pages with highly targeted Google ads - some pages may not show ads in the second or third ad unit. In this case, the ad unit will show as a transparent box, or will contain any alternate ad or color specified in the ad code.

    (it's from Google web site...)
