Would adding an "AddThis" button to my site be pretty effective for increasing backlinks and SEO? Should I just add my own social bookmarking buttons, or is the AddThis button just as effective? I'm talking about the www.addthis.com button
By this button people will get a chance to bookmark your site in their favorite bookmarking site. It's not going to build backlink (many bookmarking site has stated link as no follow) for you but it will provide good amount of visitors for sure. Keep in mind, that your site must has to be enough good content or something interesting, otherwise nobody will bookmark you
Addthis button can't do anything for seo point of view it is just for giving more information to your visitors it can help to create attractive site nothing more.

Look Aryans still you haven't got my point when people add your site as their favourite and adds it in their list, your site becomes popular since they will tell others also about your site. in this way you may also gain link. and for your other argument, i must say that there is nobody who's all answers are correct.
