Addon domains - suitable for SEO?

Recently I purchased a domain and have set it up as an addon domain on my existing hosting account. Are there any disadvantages to having an addon domain on a sub directory? I cant really use it as my main domain unless I open up a new hosting account which I do not want to do.

    Thanks

I have 2 domains on the same hosting and as far as I can see, they're treated as 2 independent domains. I have a sitemap for both in each folder, two sets of data in google webmaster tools, etc.

I agree with Devilfish, I don't think this is a problem as long as you aren't up to any tricky cross-linking or anything.

No diffeence at all, as macG said, just keep the content separate and unique and you should be fine. I'd block the /addondomain/ directory in your main site's robots.txt file just to be on the safe side (the search engines will come in on the addon domain itself, meaning they'll go to youraddondomain.com instead of yourmaindomain.com/addondomain/) as far as duplicate content issues may be concerned.
