Seen a few sites like this, I think you need to have utf=8 charset defined on a page - try and add this coffee symbol in your title tag:
    ♨

Anyone else know about adding symbols and any SEO probs?

I prefixed all my titles on one site, with a hand and index finger pointing towards the title. It makes it stand out in the SERPs. Don't have scientific data on the results but it does stand out a lot, especially in MSN so I can only assume it helps pull in traffic.

SE's don't seem to mind at all.

That's an interesting idea, what code did you use to do it?

Yep I'm wondering that also. Is it to do with Wing-dings which is a font installed on everyone's computer? I only thought those font's were used in crappy Powerpoint Presentations, so I guess now it's migrated to the web!

Hmm, perhaps symbols are the way to go then!

    <title>☞ Amazing Site!!! </title>
    Code (markup):
    ampersand#9758semi-colon

Doesn't show in FireFox top blue bar but does show in tabs. Most importantly, shows in SERPs...

...Strange, trying to find an example of a results page but seems like MSN has now stopped showing them... And Google!

Looks like what used to work has stopped working...
