Hi this is the problem. I have a domain on godaddy but my site is not hosted there, and I want to: 1. add a subdomain to the domain. 2. point this subdomain to an external server, that is not the server where I have my site. Does anyone have any experience with this? This subdomain will be used as a white label while still allowing me to use my domain as a blog. Thanks in advance for the help with this. Cheers!
Hello there, Where you have your current domain hosted, you would need to add an A record in the DNS zone, to point the subdomain to another server. You would of course, have to create an account on the external server with the proper subdomain name in order for it to resolve properly. Chris
Hi, thanks for the help and response. From what I understand, I have to go to my host and create and forward the subdomain from there, BUT.... the company where I am trying to create this white label insists that the subdomain and its forwarding is to be done on Godaddy. I am contacting my server support to ask about forwarding a subdomain on their server to see what they say. Thanks again Chris for the response. Cheers!
If you have Cpanel on your host where the main domain is hosted. Add an A record for the subdomain to point it to the IP of your external server where your subdomain is going to be hosted. Go to your Godaddy account. Add a HOST in host summary and point your subdomain to that external servers IP. Thats the way I have done. Best of luck
