Adding social bookmarking links to your site

I'm thinking about adding several social bookmarking website links (del.icio.us, digg, etc) to my pages.

Can anyone comment on how well this has worked as far as building links to your pages?

Is the basic idea to add these links to your pages so members of these sites will click on them and add your links to the social bookmarking sites and thus build backlinks to your site?

 

Exactly as you said. There cannot be any harm in doing this as it can only benefit your site. I would add the links to your pages and see if you get anything bookmarked.

 

Where do you get the icons for these? The ones where you can insert your pages link and a description, so that it just takes the user to a page within the social bookmarking site to add your link?

 

most of the social bookmark sites has started to use nofollow on the links.

for example del.icio.us is doing this.

because of it, it will not help your seo but thay may help you to get better hits from those social bookmark sites

 

If nofollow tag is there, then one can not do it for PR purpose. One thing is sure, you will be getting a good traffic based on tags.

Everyone just googles it

 

Over 8 billion web pages and close to a billion internet users everyday! They find information by any which way that suits them. For local news and weather, I never go to google but go to my bookmark (on my PC). Everyone with good information and unique business idea will do a good business.

So, I think you are right but only partly.

I just launched my site papazoo.com this weekend. It is built using wordpress and I use a plugin that puts a link to digg on all of my posts. I got 81 unique visitors from digg and 5 from stumbleupon today and thats only 2 days after it was launched. The plugin I'm using is called gregarious.
