Adding Poor Quality content to a high quality site

Can anyone help me with a dilemma I'm facing. I have a well regarded website that ranks highly with Google. New pages get picked up very quickly and usually tend to rank well with little work. I am looking to publish some information I have on a related subject with the purpose of running adsense ads. The information is not of the same high quality as that of my main site, but it is still useful infomration. I'm trying to decide whether this should be published on a subfolder of the main site or if it should go on a seperate site. Obviously putting it on the main site would mean it would rank well much more quickly. My concern is that as the information is of a lower quality and there will be two blocks of adsense on the page that this may have a negative effect on the other pages of the main website. Does anyone have any experience of somthing like this happenning? or am I worrying about nothing?

I shouldn't worry. I have done similar things using duplicate content - And outranked the original pages with it.

    Good luck

I'd suggest only add these new pages if you think they are RELATED to your site topic. If not, they might not be useful for your readers. However, I dont see any other problem with it.

If you keep the balance between quality content and content of lesser quality uneven where the quality content outweighs the lesser quality content then you sould be fine.

Did i just make any sense?

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought. Would it make a difference if the layout for the poor quality stuff was different as well? in other words could I make it look like a different site? or do they need to both look the same?

Site layout does not have much of an effect on seo. Google looks at content not layout.

Yes again this is as I suspected, thanks, I was concerned that putting lower quality content on the site would somehow devalue it with Google. I'll take the chance though :) hopefully it will be fine
