Adding More Content - Is there any way that it can damage SERPs?

I have a site that is #1 in Google rankings for 2 keywords and think that is time to add more content - 2 new pages and a few lines in the HOME.

Would it be possible to damage my ranking doing this?...I mean, I don't want to loose these #1's in Google.

Adding more quality content (unique and focused around the same subject) can be dangerous in any way?...or is always welcomed by search engines?

What do I have in mind to avoid this?

Depends on the "reasons" you rank nº 1. On the long term, adding content has of course a positive effect, but if you are "there" mainly for good onpage optimization, you need to know what you are doing. Slight changes on main page and adding new pages will not harm your overall rankings, but might cause dramatic changes for specific search terms.

First thing I would do, would be an exhaustive investigation about your direct competition (# 2 - 10), specially comparing their nº of links to yours. If you are # 1 with a similare amount of links, or with less, be very careful.

Adding content to the site is ok, but when you change the home page with links, you will be changing the "Text To Code" Ratio. This could trigger a drop to #2. But over the years, I have done this, and any drop was not from this but other things unrelated.

I would do it. You can alwasy revert it back to where it was.

The only thing I've made is put good content on keywords where most sites have poor or repeated content.
Do you think is better to not add anything while on #1?

If I add the 2 pages that have in mind but without link to them from the HOME (and without changing any on the HOME), e.g. link to them from internal pages...this would be safe?

If you link out to the new content from the homepage, you may end up distributing PR more thinly? Not sure on this, could do with confirmation.

Changing the text on the HP, could change your LSI or keywords and have an effect on position. That being said G seems to like fresh content anyway.

Adding 2 new pages should only be a positive thing, provided the theme is relevant to the rest of the site.

Don't know your keywords but you should make sure that (minor factor) your KW density keeps the same and (mayor issue) the KW "proximity" keeps unchanged.

Apart from that, catanich is right: "You can always revert it back to where it was."

Just unique and fresh content about the keyword chosen...information text done to be read by visitors and optimized for search engines...then you have to wait for a while (until being indexed)...not a mystery, everybody says that content is KING...and this is absolutely true

And do you recommend me to link them from the HOME?

And return to the same situation as today?...sounds a little risky, isn't it?
