    I have used them without any negative affect. In fact, i beleie that it benefitted the ste's rankings.

    There is no harm in using it.
    Infact, you can also use it in a flash web site with out compromising the design of the web site.

    No negative effect, just not used a lot any more.

    I personally don't like it, for me it looks unprofessional :)
