adding links makes me lose places?!?!?

    Hi all,

I've been looking around the forum for a while now, thought I'd finally post something! As I am a peon please excuse my inexperience :D

Ok I have a problem that I just can't seem to understand. I have a Real Estate website dealing with Vacation rentals, holidays/travel and general property in Cyprus. I have been link building these past couple of months with positive results until I hit #81 or so for my main keyword. The natural thing would be of course to keep going and I have done the same added links with my Keywords in the anchor text, and they have been reputable websites nothing dodgy. My problem is as of late it seems the more links I add the more I slip down slightly in my SERP's on Google .

For example I added 179 links or so from travel related websites, and I managed to actually lose some places. My link pop has increased in all other SE's but still of course not in Google as it wouldn't show a change or the links fully right away anyway. Can anyone give me some advice as to what I am doing wrong??

There is a school of thought that too many links with identical anchor text can be detrimental. Have you got variety in you link text?

(I havn't seen any evidence of this in my work but I don't discount the possibility)

Yeah I heard about that, I do change my anchor text every now and then. But I do have to say that for the 179 links I had the same anchor text... :( Might be a painful mistake!

How old is your website ? Maybe when you first hit 81, your site was new and it got some boost for freshness. Now it is probably sandboxed. But dont worry and keep doing the good work. By experience I can tell you that building reasonable quality links can never hurt you and in the end you will be rewarded.

so it you dont mix up the anchor text it will negatively effect your site? instead spread it across all of the keywords/phrases you are targeting?

sorry for the clarification questions. forgive me i am still learning... i unfortunately have also done the same in using 1 anchor text for most of my bl unless they would only allow me to use my domain name as the anchor.

    thanks .. :)

    learning more every day...

Might not be a bad idea to mix it up. I have started doing this to play it safe. Google has lots of silly filters.

The legend says that a natural link pattern would look soomthing like this...

If i have a site about UK Weather and I have 10 links, they might look like this:

5 links say - UK Weather
    3 links say - www.ukweathersite.tld
2 links say - weather forecasts
1 link says - uk forecasts

This is more natural looking than 10 links saying "UK Weather Forecasts".

On a side note, if this is true we should all see better results from the co-op if we have a few ads with slightly different anchor text.

Really trust me, the links is not the reason you go down. They will eventually give a positive feedback.

Results like #83 dont say much though. For example Google can have put you there because a site that linked you was temporarely relevant, but that website might have changed content, and therefore the link is less relevant, and could get you go down!

There are a zillion reasons, its probably not your fault. Just wait and keep on doing it..... eventually you get there...

I agree, keep building your links. Maybe use two different titles. Google has too many silly filters. In time your site will show as long as you don't link to other sites that have been banned.

Yeah I started to mix things up a little and I hope it works out, of course I'll let you guys know if it makes a difference.

If I were to have my anchor text with too many Keywords do you think it would dilute it somehow?? I mean would it be harmful?
