So I had an idea about creating a website that had 4-5 blogs attached to it with rss feeds feeding into the main page. Originally I thought I'd create a whole new site but now I've decided to just expand an existing site because it's a similar niche and that site is performing well. My question is, when setting up a blog, is it best to do blog.website.com or www.website.com/blog. Is there a difference in any way or is it the same as far as the search engines go? Thanks!
I believe it would be the same in the eyes of the search engine. I may be wrong though. So hopefully someone else has experience with this.
If you do blog.website.com each blog/subdomain is seen s a seperate domain. If you use www.website.com/blog. they are all considered as being on the same domain.
ah, that's what I was looking for. Am I right in assuming that having them all on the same domain is better because you'll have more content associated with the domain right? sorry for the dumb questions, I've just never had more than one blog/site before.
blog.domain.com is considered as a separate new domain whereas domain.com/dir is not as new. (some might say opposite). There's a long thread on DP about this. Make a search and go through to it to know more!
That's a great idea Vagabondette, It's funny because I was thinking about that yesterday. I just brought my old blog (mydomain/blog.com) back to life and i can't believe how fast it bounced back and the fact that I'm getting 30% more uniques. This doesn't count the 2,000 visits I got from Stubleupon 2 days ago - that was awesome! I was sitting there watching my live stats from the BLVD and it just went crazy . I'm thinking of toying with a second blog as a test. For some reason google (and Yahoo) still love blogs.
