Adding an "s" to existing domain?

I recently purchased alienpixels.com but I see there's already someone that owns alienpixel.com. Am I safe to use the domain I purchased? Could there be any legal problems because the name is so similar to an existing website?
Also, what about other suffixes? If someone has a name.com domain and somebody else purchases a name.org domain, could there be legal issues?

I couldn't see there really being a TM on that name - but it would never hurt to check. If there isn't, you might even wanna send the non-plural guys and email to see if they would be interested in the plural version. There could be legal issues with your question if the name is trademarked. Take Apple.com for instance - If you bought Apple.net and put up nothing but pictures of Apples, you might be ok. However, if there was anything..anything at all..even so much as a PPC ad for an Apple iphone or other related product, then it would be a TM violation.

No their won't be any legal issues into it. You are free to use domain names similar to other domain names.

Anyone who really cares about his "name" has bought all possible .net's .org's .info's etc. If some zone is free, than you can take it.

If the domain , alienpixel is trademark name and you are using it to sell the products of the trademark holder ,i advice you leave it and move on.
anyway, you must send them a e-letter stating of this issue or you check and try to register your trademark with this name,if its available. If they are being nice to you...be nice right back...

It is ok, they are both 2 dictionary words. You can register them, like it was mentioned if was a company and you decided to follow the same thing as the actual existing company like: selling the same products called" AlienPixel" and you were selling then there could be issues

You can use any domain name with any extension you register with no problem. However if domain name is a trademark and you abuse this trademark you will be legally liable. Just make sure you do not interfere into their business and tale it easy.

As mentioned by others, If the domain alienpixel is a Trademark Name, you may want to consider another Domain Name to avoid any complications in future. If not you can definitely continue using it without any issues.
