Adding a subdomain

i have a site skill-guru which has free tests on various subjects. We are going to add test for SAT and GMAT on skill-guru.
The blog sections has posts on technical topics. In order to make a clear differentiation to users , I had 2 options
    a) create a subdomain and write all posts related to SAT there
    http://www.sat.skill-guru.com

    b) use a new domain
    http://www.sat-skill-guru.com
    and use it for SAT.

If I use subdomain , I am hoping ranking will continue on top of existing site and SAT will also become a keyword for my current site.

What is the best way moving forward ? Or should I continue in same domain Skill-guru under different category ?

if you use a subdomain you have to make some efforts to get the ranking but if you use a category in the current site itself it will be much more easier

Thanks Vishal. That was a very quick reply. I did not want the end user to have everything under same blog.
But I guess creating a new category will help.
