I run a site that has a lot of information. I am thinking of launching a directory to go with it. The directory will link to people associated with the site genre. For example, a car site, with lots of information about cars and how they work. The directory will link to car suppliers, parts, etc. Would this damage the site if it linked to too many other sites (Directory)? Would Google get mad or drop the SERPS?
I think I work put it in a sub domain. That way, if it has a negative affect, google will think it is a separate website.
From what im aware, subdomains, subfolders are no longer seen as seperate sites. You should be fine with this, its a tidy way to list the related sites.
I've done it on a site that ranks #1 in Google for it's main keyword with no problems at all. Just make sure you only link to sites that are related to your and that you think will be valuable to your visitors.
If you put rel=nofollow in to links there shouldn't be any problems. But to make it shure, put it in subdomain. That way you can have multiple serp listing for your site and not just max 2 like now.
You can add directory to ur high ranking website but as the other members said, keep only the useful and relevant links in ur directory. You will get some extra traffic with this, also promote ur directory as well along with ur website... All the best!
Thanks for the responses. Yea, all links will be related. I might make them nofollow (undecided) and I will definitely make it in a sub-domain. Cheers.
