Adding a debit card to Paypal account

Discussion in 'PayPal' started by gramessh, Oct 2, 2010.

Paypal mentions in its site that both credit and debit cards can be added to an account. But when I tried adding a debit card, it kept popping up with an error asking me to contact my bank. I have no idea what's going on what so ever. It is not easy for me to get a credit card here in India as I am a student and I don't want one right now.

Is there a way to get this sorted out? The people at Paypal seem to be clueless as always. First there was the PAN card thing, now I have this. Something seems to come up all the time with paypal and unfortunately many people offer payment only through paypal for freelance services :(

    Any help guys?

    Ramesh

I'm not sure if PayPal is different for your area, but you can't add your bank account to PayPal? I think by debit they mean Visa/Mastercard issued debit cards, but I'm not sure. You could get yourself a prepaid credit card and use that :)

You cann't use any debit cards issues by any Indian bank.

You don't need to add any card in your account for receiving funds.

I have entered the correct address and details but no luck. I am currently using a bank account, but the catch is, once I have transferred all the funds to my bank account, I am unable to make purchases. It would be nice if I have a credit card added and funds can be spent online and be taken as real cash when I need it.

I have no idea why Indian debit cards are not permitted for international online use. Its stupid and it sucks.

Right now, I have to save up all my money in my paypal account for months before I make a purchase. I still don't want a credit card. I am considering virtual credit cards or prepaid credit cards like from www.epassporte.com.
If you know any other options, please suggest.

Whoa!. Thats a big thing man. Currency conversion is one of the biggest irritations in Paypal. The literally rob us when we want to send ourselves a check or add funds to our bank account. This just boosted my opinion on the card. Now, lets see if I can get a USD Forex card in India. I hope "the government" doesn't try to get it my way again :|

First, you need to make sure that your debit card supports paypal. I'm currently using my debit card for my online transactions for almost 2 years now. 2nd, once everything is set-up including your bank debit card, you still need to let your bank verify the card ownership. If I'm not mistaken, this would be the final step. Try calling your bank or visiting their website to learn more about this, you may also ask queries to them too thru their customer support.

How exactly can I check if my debit card supports Paypal. Please remember that I am from India. If I pose the same question to their customer service representative, they will know nothing!
