Adding a blog to keep my site up to date

I have a question about adding a blog to my site to keep it up to date.

I have a static main page on my site and i don't know if it is a good idea to add a blog with articles to keep my site alive with fresh content.

Is this a good idea for seo traffic to my main page to ?
