add-ons, subdomains, dedicated ip's

I read a post about this, but it was from 2005,
can't find it now, wondering if things are different now.

Is it better to have your site on a dedicated ip instead
    of shared hosting.

I've read that if a site gets penalized and your site is sharing
that ip, you could get penalized.

What is the best set-up for seo.

    Thanks, Jeremy

You can get a performance boost from having your own server, as well as being able to run https.

As far as SEO is concerned it does not make a difference.
