Add on domains seo

Are there any issues with seo with an addon domain if so are there any simple solutions?
Example test.com is my main (possibly root domain would be okay term)
    I want to have y.com.
Would actually be (y.test.com I beleive).

I would like Y to show up in search engines as Y.com not as part of test.com, and not be penalized for duplication if it comes across both.

    Possible Solutions?
Could i disallow the y.test.com subdirectory for crawling in my robots.txt of test.com (root domain)? Would that also ruin any chances of getting on search engines for y.com?

Can Y and test.com have seperate robot.txt files?

addon domain and sub domain are two different things.

y.test.com is a sub domain. The Y is the subdomain of test.com

An addon domain is you simply adding another domain name to your current hosting account. So let's say test.com is your current website, and you want to add on the domain name of y.com, y.com will not show up on test.com. You will more then likely be given the option to create a folder on the test.com account, which will hold of the files for y.com. When you go to test.com, NOTHING from y.com will show up as the DNS has been setup for both y.com and test.com as 2 separate sites by your web host.

You can have seperate robots.txt because you will also have separate FTP login accounts for each domain.

Ok I see that I was wrong by showing y.test.com

I can stop using the dummy names...
    I have fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext
    Findandtext is my addon domain.

    I can access it through
    http://www.fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext/
    and
    findandtext.com

So I though that robots would crawl the folder of /findandtext at the same time as it is crawling fnm.com

"You can have seperate robots.txt because you will also have separate FTP login accounts for each domain. "
You dont necessarily have to have separate right? I just loginto my fnm.com domain and navigate to the directory of findandtext to manage files for it. i dont log directly into that directory.

If 'fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext' and 'Findandtext.com' access the same info then this is duplicate content since search engines can have more than one path to this page, and can index it twice. I had this problem with a client who had two different PageRank values for the same page- BIG NO NO!

You will need to 301 redirect whichever you don't want to use to the other using the .htaccess file. I.e. if your using 'fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext' as your main domain, 301 redirect everything from 'Findandtext.com' to 'fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext'- this will keep your linkjuice and remove the duplicate content error.

Would it be possible to do the reverse of the example you said?
I would only want findandtext.com to show up and be used as a domain and not accessed through the fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext directory.
Would that be a solution with all the 301 and htaccess info i need to read about?
I would still be able to use the fnm.com/findandtext directory to upload all my files for findandtext.com since I dont have a separate ftp account right?

You can redirect 'fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext' to 'findandtext.com' using a 301. When browsing 'fitnessnmuscle.com/findandtext' the server will redirect you to the other domain (effectively leaving the 'fitnessnmuscle.com' site).

With regards to the directory I wouldn't be able to say, it all depends on how you've setup the addon domain (we're getting into the realms of webmaster here, I'm just a mere SEO!).

ive tried to avoid sub domains, I have never been able to get a sub domain to rank well. I would just try to find a new domain if I wanted it to be seperate. I would think you could benifit more from the backlinks also, with the new domain.
