This compact menu bar saves a lot of space in your blog's sidebar. It can also be used for your links, sponsors, categories, etc.
I've been looking at all kinds of menus for my website. If you know of any other sites where you can find menus for sites, please list them. Here you'll find the source code at the site below.

using flash is a lot more dynamic for drop downs... but then again a lot more complicated

It's also inaccessible to search engines, those who don't have the Flash plugin installed or have had it blocked, many mobile users... so don't use Flash for your site's menu. Plain and simple.

I agree totally. You want the menu to be visible to all your readers

90+% of internet users can see flash5 or greater on the web with that count rising all the time. it's completely dependant on whether or not your willing to sacrifice that 10% to give your asthetics a boost/please your customer more.

if a customer asks me for a drop down menu i use flash

p.s. id like to meet someone that doesnt have a plugin, cuz without it the internet is a very bland place, i.e. no youtube or games! + some sites demand you have flash installed to view their adverts and therefore view that sites content. but the problem is search engine technology is incapable of seeing a .swf

And what about mobile phones, people browsing from work (where the IT departments often have the final say of what can and cannot be used, persuant to company policy), dialup users who either cannot afford broadband or satellite (because the cost of servicing their area is prohibitively high), dialup users who cannot GET broadband to begin with (half of the United States, and from what I heard, most of Canada, believe it nor not - due to the telecos not giving a damn about laying down cable, new phone lines or fiber-optic lines because it "costs them too much" while they continue to rape their customers up the <ahem> without the K-Y with their ever increasing prices and profit margins while also decreasing the quality of the services they provide), as well as people who don't even bother to upgrade their plugins (and if you don't think people refuse to upgrade, look at all the people who still use IE 5.5 and IE 6, or five year old computers).

And people wonder why I'm such a strong advocate of Web accessibility (for all - not just the disabled).

Oh, and if someone asks for a dropdown menu, I use HTML and CSS, plus a small dash of JavaScript for IE 5/6, despite the accessibility issues inherent regarding those who navigate via the keyboard)

very true! and yeah the IT department wouldnt allow workers to view flash because we all know that no work would be done because youtube and games alike that use flash will distract them, im guilty!

I don't think that flash is the way to go because not as many people browsing the web have it.

tell me so if I'm wrong.

You're right - and search engines also won't index it easily.

Those users cover the desktop market - try using a Flash site on your cell phone or PDA.

As for being SEO friendly, it's anything BUT. Yes, it's getting better, but it's not even close to being there yet.
