Has anyone noticed such behavior? This happened 2 TIMES, still a coincidence?? On 10-05-2005, I added a new channel, CPC immediately dropped the next day by HALF! Two days later, I removed the new channel and miraculously it returned to normal! Same thing happened 2 days ago, only I haven't removed the channel yet because the site is now live! Is this a coincidence? But happened 2 times?? I mean it really doesn't make sense, I make new sites to earn more revenue, not lower the revenue for my other sites. I also don't see how this would benefit google. Has anyone noticed this behavior before when adding new channels?
I HOPE there is no relation but that was what I experienced. Hopefully this is just a coincidence, otherwise, I will have to inquire about setting up another account.
I can easily imagine Google using an algo based on channels. But you have to be careful when calculating your results. Google's reporting when totalling channels is all messed up. You need to compare on a day by day basis and see if the aggregate figure went up and down based on those days. I hope I'm explaining this properly. In essence, on the days that you put up channels, was your total income down?
There isn't any relation between channels and a decrease in revenue. I've spend a lot of time not using channels, and then a few months ago I started using them. My earnings actually increased (but that's due to some better placement). The only things channels do is that they allow you to see where the income is coming from. Keep in mind that revenue from Adsense fluctuates alot, and can very according to certain days as well. It might just be that you added the channels on one of these "bad" days, or that it's just normal fluctuation.
I hope it's only a coincidence, if the decrease in earning continues today, I'll remove the adsense on the new site and see if the total goes back up.
Before you make a blanket statement like that you should really do extensive research . There could be very strong reasons for Google to include channels in their algo.Particularly their smart pricing algo. I'll give you an example of a hypothetical good reason to include them in the algo. If they find that your channels are broken down into categories and consistently certain channels give a better ROI while others return a worse ROI, why not give a better mark to the higher ROI one? If that's the case, boom, they might make it part of the system. Once it's part of the system, who knows how well the algo works for your site.
thanks to alang for finding this article, VERY DISAPPOINTED, suspictions confrimed! http://www.jensense.com/archives/2005/10/one_poorly_conv.html
