I have a competitive niche that has about 125,000 pages for my keyword. At one point, I was number 3 with my static affiliate information site. I am now down to number 21 (ie 1 on page 3). The guys who keep knocking me out of position tend to be free blogs/free websites (Blogspot, Webly, Hubpages, etc) The number 1 position is a blogspot blog that is updated every single day. An analysis of the top sites reveals good keyword density, but little backlinks. Which I find strange considering the RSS nature of blogs. I have used Articles, Social Bookmarking out the wazoo, Stumble, Directories and even a few "other" methods. Yet, I keep loosing ground. I know there is money to be made and I have increased my conversions with a recent site makeover. I even hold the top spot via PPC (which is profitable), but I see roughly 80% of the searches going to the organic sites. If I could get a larger piece of the pie, I know I could make money. At this point, I want to start using RSS, Tag&Ping, Blog Directory, RSS Directory tactics. However, I am curious which of these would be the best bang for my buck. For the purpose of SEO, do you A. Add a blog to your site, get the RSS feeds out to everyone and link them back to your main site. or B. Add a free blog to blogger or wordpress, get the RSS feeds out via Feedburner and use it to direct traffic to your site. or C. Create a seperate site under a different domain that is keyword rich, get the RSS feeds out to everyone and link them back to your main site. Thanks!
I would go with A, you can inter-link pages with your current site to pass on pagerank and SEO value with the correct anchor text. You'll also see results much faster than with your other two ideas.
