ADBRITE. Large~ish site. How much SHOULD I be earning?

Discussion in 'Pay Per Click Advertising' started by chompy, Oct 21, 2007.

I run a fairly large vBulletin-based community site, averaging 300 to 500 people online at any given moment, over 100,000 pageviews/day and an alexa rank just over 10,000 (much higher for certain countries, e.g. Thailand, Japan)

I only use adbrite (interstitials, no in-line ads) with 2 zones. I generate almost $400/month in revenues.

What I need to know (because I've never done this before) is the following:

    - How much should I be making from a size with these specs
    - How you (anyone) would go about generating revenue from this set up (in this case google ads are not an option due to "adult" content)
    - How to maximise gains from adbrite
    - Any other routes to take

This is in the hopes of a server upgrade in the near future.

    Cheers.

You should be getting much more than that:
100k per day, lets say 3% CTR at 5 cents per click = $150 per day.
But, as tends to be the case with forums, your registered users will become ad blind and won't click. Even so I reckon you should be on $50 - $75 per day minimum.
    Implement inlines at once!

    Wait what?

    Per day?

That's not ad clicks, that's just users...

    But I still don't like in-line ads.

Maybe I'll enable in-line ads for just unregistered users.

    Anything else?

My calculation above is assuming only 3% of your pageviews result in an ad click worth 5 cents - not an unreasonable estimation.

OK. Yea, as you can imagine my CTR is spectacularly low.

Is in-line the way forward then?

I'm almost done setting up a new ad-zone for within my navbar that only unregistered doods can see.

Inline works well for me - that's all I can say really.
In my experience they have a higher CTR (maybe because there's more of them).

OK thanks for the advice. I am only reluctant because I dislike ads myself, but I have now enabled inline ads for unregistered users (who account for the majority of the people who visit)

I would try to find any spot that you can put AdBrite text ads in. With your traffic you could make an huge fortune from AdBrite. I have seen sites in their directory that have as much traffic as you and charge over $80 per day.

But you could charge more if your CTR was decent.

Can anyone tell me how it harms my adbrite earnings if I use a second ad service (e.g kontera, widgetbucks etc.)

Kontera have inline ads that don't look as ugly as on adbrite...

wouldn't a CPM set up pay way more for this kind of site?

or is it the fact that it is not North American traffic that makes the CPM not a good option?

    why not CPM?

    Can you expand on that?

    CPM?

Like I said before, I'm new to this.

I know you dont like inline ads, but with my current site I get about 15 clicks a day. 9 of those 15 come from inline ad clicks (on average). So I would 100% recommend adding inline ads. Your adbrite profit will probally double.

Exactly right! i could make more then 100 dollars per DAY with that forum, no lie! With 100k per day just CPM ads can take you over 50-75 USD per day! Try tribal fusion or value click, global interactive ,Burst! ( Chain it with adbrite or another network because fill rate is 20-30% but they pay AMAZING cpm) freedomofads ( My fav). Use a couple networks instead of just one, will increase your money ten fold!

100,000 pv/day means you must easily be making $1000 per month. may be $2000... What is your site by the way? or you can try google ads. their pay rate is higher than adbrite.

chompy, you said you have adult related content. As far as I know after reading Adbrights terms, adult sites are not allowed.

it's adult according to google. adbrite send "adult" sites to "avn ads" which is exactly the same and run by adbrite, not based on moral issues like google, but based on probably clicks.

i.e. if people on my site were interested in clicking adult ads (they're not) then i'd move to avn ads.

anyway, if i should be making _that_ much more than i'm making I'll have to do much more research.

    thanks guys.
