I gave more than 500,000 ad impressions but i earned an AMAZING sum of $1.10. Does that look right?

    No, it doesn't.
You should be expecting at least 10 cents per 1000 impressions -> $50.
Bear in mind that not every ad pays CPM - only banners, full pages and interstitials.

I too noticed this with the dating ads - im concerned about the audience for my site which is geared toward finance may not like the dating ads - i thought adbrite placed ads relevant to content. is this true or not? is there a way to block just the dating ads? sorry if i went off topic a bit - any help is appreciated.

Adbrite shows ad impressions and ad views ...... the actual views are much lower. I used to send them about a million impressions per day earning between $2 and $5. They would only show ads to around 10% of my ad impressions. Depends on your traffic and where it comes from .... many advertisers geo target to US, UK etc only

I average about 40k daily impressions and get about $2.50 daily.

I would think that you should expect atleast that.

You could give an ad network or an ad of some other sort billions of traffic and still earn $0. To become professional in this game, it's up to your to test different ads from different networks and programs to see how well they do with your traffic. It also involves optimizing them into your site and some other work also.

this is Huge, seriously massive amount of traffic. and even sad when we publishers do lot of hardwork,
still they pay like peanutes and earn billions. Adbrite is really pathetic.

Adbrite rates are very low now.
No longer, it is not competing with Adsense.
