What type of ad posting are you talking about? If you mean feeder sites that advertise your main site then yes it's possible. If you mean by advertising on Adwords then no it won't help.
If you can find a free classified ad site that follows links then sure. If it's nofollow then your link count will increase but the effect on your SERP position won't be greatly affected. A followed link is worth 10000 times more than a nofollow link. But remember that anchor text also plays a very important role so choose wisely.
Ad posting can help as visiblity your ads in top position at search engine.This will not improve the SERP.
It would but not a whole lot. After the expiration date your ad wont be shown. Its better use them to market your services.
If you are going to spend money on advertising then spend it on paying for reviews or direct advertising on sites where they use anchor text and follow links so you actually increase your rankings.

But what will you write in an ad body about your website? There will be hardly any popular classifieds websites that allow to advertise website related ads.
