Can you please share your experience on ad placement? Should ads be with the same color/style as content or with different colors? Should the ad be placed close to the content or between text? Ads with border or without? Links, text ads or image ads?
Test it out. Depends totally on the site you run. Create channels for each ad version and run them parallel in the same ratio. After 2-4 Weeks kill the one that performs less. Keep on optimizing your ads constantly.

Ads should match the color of your content and be either embedded or next to your editorial. Avoid image ads and stick with text ads for the most money.
From personal experience with my 4 sites (2 - financial, 2 - medical): 1) the same color as text and links 2) close to the content 3) without borders 4) text ads (728*90 and 160*600)
