Ad Disapproval and SEM tracking for iPhone app campaign

    Hi all,

I am currently running a SEM campaign for my client who recently rolled out an iphone app. There's two issues here.

    1. Difference in display add and landing page add.
One shows the client's website and the other, iTunes. Based on Google's ad policy, his ads were expected - disapproved. Now the question is, had anyway got any exemption from Google regarding the difference in these adds?

    2. Tracking
My client would like to track which traffic going to iTunes are from AdWords, how can that be done? Since apple's downloads and purchases are from their software and I am quite sure we wont be able to embed codes into it. But does iTunes has any native support to track?

    Regards,
    Samuel

The rules are clear: the display URL (more properly, the display domain name) must be the one that will show in the browser once a visitor arrives at your landing page after all redirects. So if your ad says itunes.com, your landing page's domain has to be itunes.com, no exceptions.

As for tracking, you have Adwords data for each ad going to each landing page. You known the impressions and clicks. But unless you have access to the site's code, you cannot track conversions and I know no way of doing this. I don't know how iTunes works but maybe someone else does or better, contact them.

Hi LWM, thanks for the reply, you been wonderful here! =)

Anyway I was thinking whether an exemption can be written in to them. There's no way an advertiser can directly use AdWords to market his apps unless he create another page with a link to the apps, but that is not as effective in my opinion, compared to a direct link to itunes.

I too had no experience of selling apps in itunes but there should be some information and basic analysis provided somewhere to the app developer? I am not sure, just a guess. If not, I am not too sure how I can go about marketing for this app effectively.
