Ad Company sent wrong 1099 and wont respond to emails

An ad company I use messed up my 1099 by adding in income that was already on last year's 1099. I know this is true and I even emailed and told them to look up the stats and payments to confirm this. I asked them to confirm that they will be fixing my 1099 to remove the incorrect income and send me a new one, and they will not reply to my emails. What do you suggest I do now? I dont want to pay tax on income I did not receive and I already paid my tax estimates, this extra income will cause a penalty.

Can I threaten to report them to the I.R.S. and if so what should I say to them?

I guess this is what I get for using a second rate Ad Company other than AdSense, but this company is mainly used as backup and only appears on a few pages of my site.

if a company reporting your wrong income, that does not mean you will be paying tax on that income, but there is chances you may get mails for IRS for explanation, that time you can just explain and they may be inquire and it should be in your favor

But if a company is not responding or closed, than nothing you can do and its not your fault, you show whatever you received, rest its IRS work to find out

But I know they are not closed, they are just choosing to not respond. How lazy could someone be, I dont understand why they wont respond to the emails.

I dont want to go through explaining anything to the IRS, I dont want an audit either.

you don't need to run after that company

Simple option for this is when you file your taxes, just mention how much you receive from that company, and if it does not match with their record, than most likely IRS will check with both, and I don't see this may cause any audit

As much you are responsible they are equally responsible and should not report wrong income, but this is really not a big issue

so I don't see you should worry much

Check with some Accountant who is specialized in tax filling

Thanks for the info, I file electronically so I dont send the 1099. I wonder if this will just show up as a red flag in the IRS system.

I am still pissed at that company, I dont see why they would just not even respond to my emails about the 1099. What a horrible way to do business, I am removing all their ads from my site. Too bad its already 2012 and I have been using them this year because they will probably jack up the 1099 they send next year as well.
