Ad clarification

Discussion in 'Co-op Advertising Network' started by chachi, Oct 15, 2004.

Reading the Co-op FAQ, there is very little published with regards to the guidelines about what is considered to be an acceptable ad. Reading through the thread about categories, and having 2 ads removed from my account because I assume they were considered "pharmaceutical related ads", has made me think a little more about this. The products in question (the anchor text of the ads in this case) are over the counter products and available in any Walgreens, Safeway, Longs, Costco, etc. So, my question is what is the official policy of the network on ads. If an over the counter product that anyone can walk into a store and buy is not kosher I think it would be nice to know a little more about what is acceptable. Running ads for mail order brides seems a bit more offensive to me than Rogaine. But, maybe I am in the minority here. :D

I don't recall ever seeing an ad for Rogaine to be honest. It wouldn't be my "favorite" ad of course, but I don't think it would be unacceptable.

The ads were for Minoxidil (the generic form of Rogaine) and Revivogen...an all natural treatment.

Ahhh....I figured this would come up eventually. :) Actually there is no such thing as a "mail order bride". Hasn't been since the gold rush days. And I don't like the term either but unfortunately there are over 81000 searches a month for that term alone. Small compared to say web hosting but still significent. I was actually reluctant to even start using a signature because of the subject potentially coming up. But I'm brave and have broad shoulders. :)

Now to the defense. :) My wife is Russian. I met her through a service. We've been married for over 7 years and are very happy. Unfortunately there are many "less then honourable" dating and introduction sites and scams out there. And a lot that are fronts for porn and other strange things. I found this out before meeting my wife. That's one of the reasons I started this sideline business 7 years ago. To operate a legetimate business that provides good and responsible services to anyone interested in or wanting a service such as ours. To me a well run, honest, reputable introduction/dating service should be no more objectionable then any other well run honest businesses. If anyone would like to discuss the subject in more detail please feel free to e-mail me directly.

BTY...Congratulations on your 10 year aniversary Nitin !!

For what it's worth...I've received quite a few visitors from this forum from my sig. And to my surprise many stayed for quite some time and viewed a lot of pages so it must not be that objectionable. :)

Lou, not bashing you or your sites. I think that at some point in the near future it would make sense to strenghten the wording of what an "acceptable" link or site is for the co-op. I had some ads removed from my account a couple of weeks ago, but after reading the FAQ, I am not so sure that removal was really in accordance with what ads are being displayed now. Your links were an easy target/example. :)

BTW, I am half Russian and spent 3 weeks there in 1989. A beautiful place with some beautiful women. Congrats on your marriage, sounds like you are a happy man.

Hi Chachi, That's OK I understand. I am a pretty easy target sometimes. Actually you just gave me an idea for an avtar. I think I'll put a target up. :D I agree with you about Russia. I've been there 9 times so far. It's a shame they have the economic and other problems they have.

I`m still shocked I only found out about this product in 2009 :)
I am from Europe and Rogaine just recently started making its appearence here through a local website that sells Rogaine and I made an order to see how it goes although it`s more expensive that in the rest of the european countries.

Wish me luck. I don`t have big hair problems but I`m hoping not to have a problem at all after I`m done with it. :)
