Hi - We have been using a pretty "ad dense" format for our travel content pages with a wide skyscraper adsense block on the left Nav, and two medium / large rectangles placed within the content about 1/3 and 2/3 down the page. Ie, we are using the maximum 3 adsense ad "blocks" on a content travel webpage. Has anyone experimented whether clickthroughs increase by using 3 adblocks vs. 2 adblocks? Might the page's CTR increase due to a higher quality perception by the viewer and serving a better selection of ads ? I believe that Google serves the best ads to the first ad blocks -- and downward in quality for the 2nd and 3rd adblocks... Do more ad blocks on a true content page mean more $? ==================================
I think that less pay more because there is less a chance of lesser paying ad units displaying. also having less ad units are better for your ctr, if i had to use 3 ad units i would make sure that 1 was a ad link unit. ad link units improve ctr as well.
I really dont think anyone would know. You can specualate all you want but I think it comes down to testing. It may also depend on the niche. Main thing is the get your site exposed as much as possible that way if publishers see that you have some presence in that particular niche they will be more inclined to put their ads on your page hence paying more for the clicks. 2 blocks may cause more competition so higher paying keywords but 3 blocks may also give more exposure so theres more clicks (maybe less cpc). You'll have to test it yourself.
