Hi, Forgive my ignorance on this topic... I've been trying to figure out my SEO problems for a while now and I'm still pretty clueless as to how it all works and what I need to do to make it work for me. I've checked my google page rank in several places and I get different numbers depending on where I check. It's usually a 0 or 1 depending on the site giving me the ranking. Is there some sure way to check this and know it's right? Also, for the keywords I would like to being listed highly on, the highest listed sites are PR2 and PR3... I've noticed the main difference between my site and theirs is that they have lots of indexed pages and I don't. But, I'm not sure how to get google to index my pages...? I generated some sort of free site map and put it on there, but I really don't even know if that's going to help me or if I did it right.
Both PR and search engine rankings will come down to backlinks. You basically need a stronger link profile than the websites ranking above you. Onpage factors play a smaller role in search rankings, but it shouldn't be ignored either. For checking PR, try this tool: http://www.prcheckingtool.com/ It will check the PR across multiple Google data centers. Each data center may have a slightly different PR until they get fully updated. Don't obsess too much over this PR as this is only the toolbar PR and is not really an accurate measure of anything other than PR of your backlinks.
Thank you both. It looks like the one that's saying I'm a 0 is wrong. I'm trying not to obsess over it, but I'm having a rough time figuring out what to obsess over! I do have more backlinks than the other sites (from what I can tell), but I would venture to say that they're potentially not as strong as the others? Backlinks are just links to my site from others, right? Nothing more to it?
Google uses more than 200 signals to find out the Page rank. But google does not publish this algorithm anywhere. All page rank checkers are using their own algorithm. So in anyway , they are not going to be accrate. But they are approximate and almost correct. Read this google page http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html Have you submitted your site to google search engine..If not go ahead here www.google.com/webmasters Then google will index your page As soon as possible. Try this blog to find out some ideas to submit your site to search engines. http://www.candymoney.blogspot.com For talking about page ranks of specific sites, you can go here as per sticky http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=647224
You PR does not matter, when it comes to ranking in the serps. Getting quality links is the most important.
Thanks for the link vansterdam - that shows many more than the one I'd tried before. Seems to be more reliable too. S
Just install the google tool bar. It has a Page Rank chcker built in. And since its coming straight from google, there is nothing to doubt or worry about.
