Accuracy of adwords KW tool stats

I'm wondering about the accuracy of G's Adwords Keyword search volume stats.

I've rec'd a few domains that get good regular search volumes (around 4000 exact searches per month locally according to Adwords) and I've got to Pg1 of the query but I'm getting little or no traffic from these queries.

Has anyone found something similar? Are the stats the KW tool gives accurate? I've noticed that other tools like Estibot give different results for search volumes.

Well, you are in page 1 of the query doesn't mean that you will have much traffic from it. If you use Adwords for search only, I will get less traffic than you use both search and content network.
And you should remember that the click through rate is not often over 10%. You should try to broad or phrase match keyword instead of exact match, you will see a lot of traffic.

All well and good, but what I'm really trying to find out is whether the search stats are accurate.

I'm at #4 for a 4000+ theoretical search query (exact) and if I widen that to broad it goes up dramatically. with 4K/month people seeing my site thats more than 100/day, some of them should click through to it.

I use the KW tool to evaluate the value of a domain for search, so I need to know if it's accurate.

Well, I only think that Google Search Network is Google itself. They know themselves than any others, if they do not offer accurate stats, will customers use their products ?

Well, by page 1, do you mean 1st place or 10th place? How compelling is the #1 result? If it were Wikipedia, or somewhere else folk would trust a lot, and your are #7, it's conceivable that you'd only get 1 click per day. And how compelling does your result appear?

Also, I think Google's numbers are "fuzzy". I've spent a lot of time using their tool for domain purchase purposes. In my experience, the real numbers can be up to 3x more or 3x less than their estimate. Typically more like 1.5x to 2 times out. Still a useful number, but not if you are trying to squeeze a small margin of ROI from your purchases.

The keyword tools numbers are indeed slightly off, this is known fact. BUT it is still the BEST FREE tool we have to estimate search volume. When planning campaigns its invaluable.

Their stats are not accurate in my opinion. Here's why:

    - I choose a keyword and it lists a Cost Per Click of $0.23 for positions 1-3
    - So I add the keyword to my campaign
    - I go to my campaign keywords and it says "Keyword is below 1st page bid of $0.87

Now that means that the info is not accurate.

The keyword tool's stats are very accurate. When I compare them to actual impressions in an Adwords account, they match. That is, if I was able to target 100% impressions by being on the first page and a high enough budget.

If you are looking at costs per click, those are estimates. They will depend on your quality score. The tool uses a typical QS for its estimates. So if your QS is better or worse than the average, you can throw that estimate out the window.

How about Estibot? that tool gives a search volume indicator as well for exact searches etc. It seems more precise than adwords, but is it more accurate?

You should know that bid of keywords fluctuate frequently depending on your QS, the number of competitors and their bids. I have some keywords fluctuate from $0.2 to $0.5 everyday.

Of course, Google AdWords Keywords tool is pretty reliable; however, there are some exceptional cases like MyHub who get inaccurate data, but overall Google's Keywords Tool is pretty amazing...
