Hello DP'ers I need some help here. Basically I need to be able to download separate reports in paypal for my history. I need to download a report that shows the money that I received and a separate report with the money that I spend "send". I know that you are able to download account history if you go to "Download my history" but when I download the cvs file it shows ALL transactions including payments that I send and received, it's a huge excell file and it is not easy to read. Can anyone help me with this. This is for accounting purposes. Thanks !
As I understand their interface, you get what they give you and it's up to you to sort or split the information they give you. It's easy enough to sort the data by transaction type and split apart manually in Excel, but it would take some scripting to break apart the record types automatically from a CSV file. It sure would make sense to be able to download just certain transactions just as you can view them on the web, but you can't do it -- at least I haven't been able to.
Thanks for asking about this. I just download my account activity for last year because I have to do my taxes soon. If you have Excel you can load the file, then click once on the second row number (2). That will highlight the row. Then hold down the SHIFT key and use the arrow or page down keys to select all of the data rows. When you have the rows selected, go to DATA - SORT. Select "sort by type" and click ok. This will sort the list by transaction type and will allow you to go down the list and delete anything that you don't want included. You can also change things like Subscription Payment Received Subscription Payment Sent to be just Payment Received Payment Sent if you want so that things will all be sorted together when you sort a second time. Then you can either save the entire file. If you need to have two files, you can then save the file to more times, once as expense and one as income. Then go into each file and delete the things that should not be in each file. I hope this helps.
Our accounting team simply downloads the file thats provided by Paypal and then imports it into the tax software (i.e. Quicken) and goes by that. I am sure your accounting would be able to get that info really quick.
