Account suspension

    Hi,

My site has been improving in traffic and lately JustHost has been suspending it then persuaded them to reopen it and then suspended it again. The site received over 10k unique visits last month and it should be very high this month.

I just wanted to ask whether that's really huge enough that a shared hosting cannot handle. It's running on wordpress and has some plugins.

High traffic websites are never good on a shared hosting. I will suggest you do a full backup of your account, and move to a VPS.

Its genuine reason. Shared accounts are not allowed to consume high CPU usage.
This is common practice by all web hosting company.

I have been told that 65% is actually is a very huge amount, but I just can't seem to figure out what's causing this. The site is running on wordpress and has a few plugins. Do you think the plugins might be the cause of this and how do I identify which plugin?

when you get to this level you just need to get a vps server its really the only solution to fix your problem

But just remember that if it's really spiking a shared server with 65% CPU usage, and the shared hosting server is likely to be much more powerful than the average VPS, then you're going to hit performance issues with your VPS too. You need to investigate this further because at the moment unless you go for a very high-end VPS you will probably be disappointed.

Yes, your plugins could be causing the problem.

You are getting good traffic, so I do not thinks its because of any plugin.
Although you can try few tips:
    1) Use very light wordpress theme. Less images, less codes. No un-wanted codes.
    2) Any cache wordpress plugin.
    3) Avoid use of unwanted plugin.

It does seem a lot but I've seen some sites on shared hosting spike dual quad-core hyperthreaded CPU's (i.e. 16 logical cores) at 100% for several seconds and once for a couple of minutes, so it's not impossible. All the sites I've seen this on were written using an open-source development platform (not Wordpress) and the CPU usage was insane even with all the caching options switched on. Badly written plugins, and a database server (MySQL?) installed on the same server as the web sites, can cause CPU spikes. Even so, I agree that 65% is unusual.......but not impossible.

If you are expecting to see additional growth in the future, it may make sense to look into a dedicated server. It may not be totally necessary yet, but if you are going to continue to grow, it may make the most sense down the road. It will be more costly than a VPS option, but something to consider.

I don't see why you are on shared hosting with 10,000 visitors in the first place, I would be on my own VPS if i were you.

If your traffic is gaining, there is nothing wrong in moving to a VPS.

Do you think this could also be the cause of spamming? Automatic robots?

You've got to count the costs of the disruption, and if it's costing you more than a better hosting environment would, then you need to move - even Google rankings for example are affected if your site is continually going off and on as it doesn't suggest a quality resource they should be sending search engine traffic to. Had to move to dedicated some years back myself due to similar issues, best move I made.

    Hello Googl.
I worked for 3 web hosting companies and know this problem especially with WordPress.

Some plugins (like the thumbnail generator, super-cache, etc...) are using a lot of memory and CPU. They can even bring down the server and all the websites hosted on. This is why your host can not take the risk to let you on a shared server.

With 10 K visitors per day, you should take a decent VPS and start thinking about the future, and probably a small Dedicated Server ;)
