Accidently regged a domain that is trademarked by someone

I recently registered a domain only to find that it was trademarked by someone else. I had questioned about the legal issue involved in this and how to handle if I own a domain I would like to get rid of but am unable to.

It will only lead to a legal issue if you don't give it to them when they demand it.

 

Ah ok. So whether or not it was a mistake it should be no problem then.

Trademarks are a funny thing. And domain names that are like trademarks (coke.com, for example, while redirecting to Coca Cola, could also be the domain for producers of coke, the coal residue), don't ALWAYS infringe.

Without knowing a lot of details, it's possible that you could run your domain in any way you choose, so long as you're not actually infringing the trademark of the other company.

Anyways, in any event, in this day and age, a company that hasn't registered their name as a domain seems to not want to (it's not like the early 90s when folks didn't know what the internet was). That doesn't mean that actual infringement is ok, nor does it validate cyber-squatting. But it also means that if you have a valid use for the site other than infringing on the other company's trademark, you might be just fine in keeping the domain name.
