Accidentally at the head of SERPs.

Has anybody ever accidentally found themselves at the head of some popular search engine results? This hasn't happened to me, but I was wondering if somebody, through no specific work of their own, ever has gotten results like this.

all of the time I end up in the #1 spot for relative obscure phrases that get maybe a few dozen hits a day.

the things I've really, really tried to optimize for I haven't see many results for yet- I'm in the top 10 finally, but at #10, the traffic you get is pretty small compared to what it'd be in the top 5.

I wrote an article about cold calling for someone on th highrankings forum. I wrote the article as the reply was too long. I posted it together with a link, and the site sits at number one for the title which is 'smart cold calling' I actually posted it together with a couple of articles on selling at www.bhelp.co.uk but because of the page rank the bhelp site is pushed out as wdw has a pr5.

I blew my own site out of the water with the old 'same content higher page rank trick' lol WDW is my site btw.

It's seems the obscure keyword phrases come and go with a #1 or #2 ranking all the time. I've never been foruntate enough to just get a great keyword and a top 5 ranking with no work.

I got excited when I checked one of my keywords with McDar's tool and to my surprise I was number one. Upon closer inspection I was number one for sporsbook reviews not sportsbook reviews. Guess I must have typed it incorrectly twice. Once in the actual page and once when checking with the tool...

When developing pages for certain keywords you often get great surprises. One time I missed one of the most important phrases to pursue, but within a short period of time I ended up as #1 out of almost 8 million pages. It (accounting terms) still returns more traffic than any other phrase on my site. I am currently developing a downloadable Accounting Glossary at a modest fee for those searchers.

It is always good to totally analyze your SE hits to identify additional or possibly even more lucrative KWs to focus on.

Same here. I consistantly get a bunch of random searches that I must be ranking pretty high on. I think it's because of my forum.

I have a "Hot Deals" search that combines numerous RSS feeds I often get odd item search results because of them but never anything substantial.

I've posted this one before, but I "found out" a few months ago that I was #1 for car stories ... outa 12,000,000+ entries! Sounds more impressive than it actually is, but I do pick up a handful of inbounds/day ... and posting here probably cements my position! ;-)

Another one I USED to rank high for was "naked dad" because I had a cute picture of me with my son taking his first path ... but the porno forums got "excited" over that one so I modified it - I don't need that type of publicity.

My brothers climbing site ranks #4 and #5 for Hitler's Sex Life (it's the name of a route) ... I bet he was surprised to see that pop up in the Analog reports! ;-)
