Hi all, Hope you are all well, can anyone help me learn how to access a mySQL database from within a Dreamweaver CS3 template please. I've started reading the help and online tutorials but the ones I have found seem to relate to an older version of mySQL and there is so much to CS3 I'm not really sure where to start. Initially I want to be able to collect submissions from a simple front page into a database but later I would also like to set up an affiliate program and collect users data for subsequent payment. Of course this is going a bit too far for a relative newbie but I like learning I didn't have any sites this time last year and now I have nearly a hundred, mind you 50 are MFA so I guess they don't really count. Also I'm looking to purchase some databases and would like to use them to create web pages with varying content to attract the SE. I'm assuming I would use some sort of script for this am I right?
How much do you know already? e.g. what do you know about using server side scripting such as PHP in web pages?
I don't know anything about using server side scripting. Currently I use Dream Weaver CS3 to design and upload sites I have about 100 sites already but have relied on others to do the DB work and think its about time I did it myself. I have a few scripts I want to amend but am not sure where to start. I have logged in to the cpanel and manged to create mySQL databases but am not sure where to start with the scripting. Do I write it off line and upload? Do I need to log in and write it online? I want to create a sign up page for my affiliates rather than getting them to email their details in I'm sure thats stopping some of them. I also want to use the registration details for a newsletter. I need to know where to start I can create programs, I'm a fast learner didn't have any sites a year ago but would like to take this next step. Paul
