I am showing up today, well actually yesterday now (11/29/05), in the URL http://dir.yahoo.com/new

For those that have recently gotten into the directory, how long was it before you were actually showing up in the normal directory? http://dir.yahoo.com

I've submitted through UK & Ireland which was a free submission. I'm expecting to wait an age, due to the sheer number of websites that will be expected.

Would it be better to ditch that and pay the $200 for Yahoo.com?

I just got a site in inside of a week, unpaid. I guess the niche wasn't particularly competitive.

Basically you have to ask yourself if your website is worth it.

If its a crappy site then I would not waste my money.

If the site is one you plan to do business with for many years to come then as others on here have said... "How can you afford not to?"

Took almost 3 days for my site to get into the actual directory once I was accepted, just for anyone who wants to know.

So far, I have seen one significant change which was a climb of #9 to #3 for a competitive keyword, and another that was not in the top 200 showing up at 89 yesterday, then 85 today.

These are yahoo rankings, and the changes took place within 3 days of showing up in the directory. Not sure what else to expect in the way of changes, but I am hoping for some long term improvements regarding rankings for yahoo and google with this directory inclusion.

The real test of it's worthiness is of course the traffic increase both over short and long term.

#9 placement in yahoo serps is already on page one, right? #89 on one search term is of questionable value because it's so far back in the serps, but there could be other search terms that now rank higher... so it could add up in ways not yet accounted for.

you mentioned a relationship between yahoo index and google serps... do you have any more info on that?

Its nothing I can prove, I can only say that rankings in google are starting to climb.

Going to have to wait and see what happens in the long term to really know. For me, the directory alone isnt what is going to get you ranking high, but I think it does play strongly in the role. Almost every high ranking site that I am competing against is in the directory.

As for yahoo, yahoo admits that they place higher relevance on sites in the directory.
