Hi everyone, I would love to hear some feedback on my newly launched site for Barcelona, Spain. www.absolutebarcelona.com. The main feature is a simple to use (as well as register your company in) Business Directory for international residents and visitors. Other features you will quickly see.. Free Classifieds Ads, Forums, Articles, Hotel Booking and more being added continually. The actual database has been optimized for google spidering by using mod_rewrite for the dynamic URLs. Many pages are indexed but only with page rank of 0. The main page got a PR of 3 after about 3 weeks of going online. Now the main thing is, my site is brand new and other sites which are ranking top 5 have been around for years (some even 7 years!). And the one ranking highest has over 200 doorway pages linking to it... It seems this is part of the sites high ranking success, which I don't understand.. Shouldn't this be penalized? I would like to hear some feedback on my chances against these related-sites. Also any general feedback on design or content, suggestions, criticism, as well as thumbs up are appreciated!
Hi, nice site couple of observations (some personal) Splash page? Click to enter? Index page has lots of white space for some of the content of the spalsh page.. At AbsoluteBarcelona.com you can also plan your visit to this fantastic city, book hotels, find barcelona rental accommodation, plan your barcelona relocation and make new friends. -------------------------------------- Question why do have all the pages driven from the database the same title and meta tags? I have meta per dynamic page in the db only using default when there is no entry. Yes it's work but it gives the SE's food. Also easy to manipule like inserting How to? or New or What? makes SE's think it changes all the time. Sorry late have to go... M
Thanks for the feedback! The splash site was the first thing I made and I havent really had a chance to think about its existence, but I agree... Perhaps would be best to get rid of it all together... I have modified the description tag for index.php Good Question! Will work on that one.. Did you set something up that's similar to this? And with the How to? or New or What? What did you mean exactly?
Hi, on this signature domain 2/3 is dynamic and I've included meta and additional text. Texting the tite in a certain way e.g. "xxxxx airport by train....." I can inject additionals either by sql or via header as I use a different header element per section of site so presently it injects "How to? xxxx airport by train....." next week I may change train to BritishRail or I may change ...parking to carparking... etc. Thus by spending 10 minutes a week I have about 25% pages with fresh content as far as most SE's are concerned. TIP1 G ignores key meta and desc meta is only used to verify content BUT Y uses meta key to allow you to verify / expand e.g. title is Florida homes.... key can be US southern tip bungalows condos...... TIP2 Generate some sponsorship positions. Good positons that really hurt to give away and just do that in exchange for high value full on theme links of equal value (not jut from a resource page) or have full pages dedicated to another site/service and write a very personal message to the webmaster or better marketing / managing director or CEO ignore PR. I'm not a friend of chasing endless links I strongly and controversly belive that the present link valueation has to change, but hey don't take my word for it. The best way in the long run is to find and generate something unique or different to others - but easy to manage - mmhhh today is Thursday what would I do? 10-20 pages "this month tour of properties - from touch down to take off" describe a typical "shopping tour for homes" landing in xxx - airport resources - car hire - accommodation - meet the agent (profile an agency and have them pay for it!) - leagal - how to evaluate - how to check etc etc.... (don't forget expats like me haven't a clue how property dealing works in the US) three or four properties of the month and than attractions, near by restaurants, lawyers, city halls, planning offices, crime figures, newspapers (get them to give you a news feed!), etc, etc, etc, .... take off (lounges airport shopping...). Did I say the above is copyright? Did I mention the large cheque? Have fun and best of luck M
