I've been searching the interenet for about three weeks for a way to make money. Everything I've found takes me to 1.) The Rich Jerk, 2.) Beating Ad Words, and 3.) Here. All reviews on the net say The Rich Jerk and Beating Ad Words are excellent and well worth the money, but I spent the day yesterday reading this site, (I found by accident), and everyone says they're a waste of money. All the info is readily available here. So, this morning I signed up, spent four hours poking around this site and all I've found are words like BLOG, SEO and so on. Anyway, I'm ignorant to these terms and would appreciate help. I'm not looking to make a million a day that's unrealistic, but just extra money.

    Thanks to all, please help,

    Laid-off construction worker

I think your time is spent here. Any valuable info is right here. I don't say that because I'm part of DP.

I'm saying that because I have gotten lots of help and I also have helped others here as well.

    In answer to your question:

Blog: Basically is a web diary. People "blog" about many topics- politics, personal life, work, technology, news etc.

You can visit my blog below to see how these are laid out. You probably have visited them before.

SEO - stands for Search Engine Optimization

This basically means the process that one takes to make their website rise to the top of Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs).

i.e. You wanna be in the top 10 or at least top 3 pages when someone searches a keyword.

A keyword is something you type in the search engine: forum, technology, news.

There are many ways to achieve good SEO and I'm not going to go into them because it is exhausting (not difficult to do though).

I have some, but could probably only spare maybe $200 without a return.

You need to decide a strategy as well - do you want to be creative, a shop keeper, a writer, etc - play to your strengths.

I have two of my neighbor's HOUNDING me on how I make a living on line. 1 out of the 2 has out right asked me for step by step instructions (I could really go off on how wrong that is).

But for you Braxhussan, you're asking a pretty common and almost genral question. So, take the info the Rich Jerk and Beating Adwords Supply and apply it to what you do read here. I haven't bought the Rich Jerk's info or the Beating AdWords, but I hear from colleagues that it's nothing new (for people already successful in the industry).

In the beginning, I did SO much reading. I would add 2 and 2 (things like the previously mentioned eBooks and places like this forum). In the beginning, I didn't have an available credit card for advertising so I offered 10% on spending with a close friend of mine. This was after finding an affiliate program with a product that was in high demand, and had a good profit margin (not listed in my signature). I built my site, although it was a little rough around the edges, and went live. NO immediate success. I didn't give up though. I played detective enough to know that others had sites like mine plus the traffic. So, I actually took the time and WORKED. With this particular program I could change my prices so I did extensive research on competitors prices and reduced mine just a bit. I then changed the overall color of my site from Orange (ick, I know), to a pleasant blue. I also changed the page surfers landed on from AdWords from the Index page of the site, to the actual product page with the Price Table immediately in view (basic 101 stuff, but I was SO green). Things changed after that. It wasn't an overnight process, and it didn't change from rags to riches either. But that was my start. I worked EVERY spare moment I had after that until finally, almost 2 years later, I started doing this full time and from home. Now, it hass almost been another 2 years and I'm still learning, adding, multiplying, AND getting hit left right and center from friends and family on how I do it.

Bottom line - Decide RIGHT here and now if this is really what you want to do. Consider it a commitment just like you would of going to college, changing your profession, or accepting a totally new job (and NOVICE level no less). Then go for it with all that you've got.

Get yourself a credit card or some cash. Committ to spend it WISELY on the right affiliate program with the righ site. Track the shit out of it and turn a profit on it. It CAN be done and you will learn SO much more this way.

    Good luck.

What do you mean by creative, shop keeper, writer, etc. It is safe to assume I'm the guy who doesn't know how to make a web page.

Creative - write fiction, journalist, etc
Shop Keeper - Run an affiliate store, try selling products online

If you don't know how to make sites, a Blog with AdSense can start earning you money, with little effort (take a look at the webmasters love goole site in me sig) - but you need to have some editorial outlook for it.

Uban, that was a great post.
Braxhussen, I am a newbie too and am finally about to publish 3 sites and 3 blogs because:

    1. I bought Eric Giguere's book: Make Easy Money with Google Adsense - which made the complicated stuff much much easier, and is a great step by step approach and very inspiring.

    2. I have been reading until my eyes have almost popped out, ESPECIALLY the Shoemoney blog and all the blogs he lists as preferred reading.

    3. I took 2 HTML classes at ed2go.com $79 per 6 week class, and it gave me a great basic start.

    4. My limited HTML stopped me (couldn't seem to move past the first page design) and I became frustrated and overwhelmed with all the terms here which seem like a foreign language.

    5. I read and read and read again, here and the other forums and googled every term I didn't understand.

    6. Lastly, I emailed a DP member and complimented her website, she was so helpful and thankfully suggested I try XSitePro software and now I am flying. I've built 36 pages of content in about 5 days and will have the other 2 websites running by the end of next week.

This forum is like following bread crumbs to the prize. Find websites you understand and like, that are clean, a simple design yet effective in their message and then ask how they did it.
I felt as you did that the forum was full of terms I didn't understand and puzzle pieces that didn't seem to fit together, but if you keep reading as all of these posters say, it will begin to fit together.
