Kind of a newbie question I guess...there's a lot of great info and techniques here about link exchanging, and some people have conflicting views from time to time on what is and isn't good practice. Are there any absolute dont's when trying build links to your site? Seems like there is a lot of grey when it comes to posting a link back to your own site and I don't want to end up looking like a spammer or something.

Well, post comments on the blogs/articles/forum related to your own niche. Do not go posting on every other forum you come across. First give your opinion, and why you support that. Give the source as your site. You won't be considered a spammer if you refer to other sites as well.

Don't get a bunch of links from crappy neighborhoods. It will make your site look scammy.
