dvduval....I have seen those templates and a few others that were pointed out to me on this board but honestly I still havent seen anything that I like.

I would like something with a more fresher look as wrmineo pointed out. I know, of course, that I could have something made for me but then that would really spoil the whole point of getting it for free or the paid version for $25 dollars - since some of the price range for the better templates are about $20 or more

After looking at many of the links that many people recommended here, I still like the template selection in the middle of this page: http://www.esyndicat.com/products.php and here:http://www.esyndicat.com/demo/, however, only one person recommended this script which make me wonder.

    Regards,

    Sunshine

    Thanks for your opinion.

I LOVE what you did with your directory by the way. It's fresh, bright and alive. And it showed me that I can have the look I'm after with PHPld. Where did you get your template? Was it custom made? Or did you customize a free template. Do tell.

Just used my imagination and put some thought and creativity towards the end user, like:

what is something *everyone can use* then... [IMG]
weather MOD was born. (try it out :D).

Then thought, hrmmm...Information...what should i do? then ...[IMG]
Dynamic syndication on a *per* category basis. so RSS MOD was born.

I thought, 'hey, if someone wants to look up telecommunications, why not try and provide them with the latest up to the second information.
I tried my best to get the most accurately possible info for each category, it does tend to sway every so often, but there is always relevent content.(if it exists)

Then I started thinkng for myself and how I can get deep saturation and then ...[IMG]
Deep Link MOD was born. ex: browse 2 or 3 categories deep, then click submit. Now take notice of the reciprocol anchor text that needs to be copied and pasted. It caters to your directory structure and with anchor!

Just so much freedom & fun with the script and quite honestly, your imagination is the only thing limiting you with phpld.

I would just like for *everyone* to know that, i joined up with phpld the last week of february and...

    1. I have NO php experience
    2. I have NO Smarty Experience
    3. and absolutely NO phpld script experience.

Within 2 weeks I was writing MODs for myself and for Others. I now do custom work and templates. I picked it up with ease. My diectory, once carefully thought out for the end user took 5-6 days to completion.

Alll it takes is some creative imagination, and you can do anything with this script) hell I have a nother site sitting here with 2.5million categories. A precision based directory. I'm just waiting on 3.04 to come out.

Sorry for so much typing. i just really like this script and the people around it, and wouldn't think 2wice about using anything else, ever!

    Rob

quick edit: I customized everythng in my template. everything from scratch. I also have a set in green too. here are headers in proto-type: http://www.activeweblinks.com/tmpimages/proto-awl.gif

how about a script that runs on a windows server that also has search engine friendly URLs? This is what I'm looking for. Will PHPLD do this? I need the search engine friendly URLs.

Yikes! I did not see this thread earlier. I use eSyndicat Pro and simply love it. It definitely looks nicer and quite refreshing even for the admin end. I've seen PHPLD but do not quite like what I see but that is really a personal preference and nothing more.

So another vote for eSyndicat Pro from me :)

i made my own: it sorts links by the number of referers i recive from the listed sites, can adjust listing fee by category (free for non-commercial sites & blogs, 10-30 for "book hotels/flight" sites) and you can filter listings by country. ok this point probably makes only sense for travel related sites like mine.

in case you wanna see it: http://www.shareyourride.net/travel-directory.php

Hey an0n, I just went back and re-read your post and I'm even more impressed with what you did with your site given that you had no experience. And in so little time too! The end result is that your directory looks like quite rich with content as is it's been around for years.

Regarding what you said here: "I now do custom work and templates", could you tell me more about this? do you have a site with your rates, etc?

    Regards,

    Sunshine

falcondriver...you did a nice job building your own directory script!

aspidov...many of the templates that I saw that I like started around $15/$20 which in some cases is almost as expensive as the script itself. I think this kind of spoils things that the template would be as expensive as the scirpt, don't you?

    Sunshine
