About Webhosting upgrade.

After a series of attacks on the shared hosting that i am currently at. I decided to upgrade to a higher level of hosting.

    My choices:
    1. Apply for a dedicated IP at $2.99.
    2. Apply for a virtually dedicated hosting at $29.99.

Can choice no. 1 add a certain level of security or is it the same as those on shared hosting with same IP?

For choice no. 2, is the price that good for such a service? I am currently taking about 40k-60k visits a month and my website is experiencing a slow down despite having good page speed rating.

    Thanks,
    Charles of Sugod.com

Definitely go for a Virtual private server, it will be more secure and your site's performance will not degrade because of the amount of visitors. As for the price you should put the specifications of the VPS and tell us who your host is, for a mid-high range VPS the price looks about right.

    -Good luck in your decision

IF yo uadd a dedicated IP on a Shared server this does not increase the security. A honestly moving to a VPs will not increase your website security UNLESS you have someone to manage the virtual machine. When you on a Shared server and if you get a lot of DoS attacks or any other kind of attacks, your web host will not want you there, because they have to do a lot of work for you. So find someone to manage your machine properly. And you'd be fine.

I am not sure but it looks like he is saying that the "server" or "service" it self was getting attacked and not his own website.

So in other words since the attacks are on the shared server moving to a VPS would definitely be more secure. And because of the limited amount of VPS users per server, you will generally get less attacks.

Your real option is to simply switch services.

    You experience DDOS?

If you change to VPS also useless.

You need to ask your host to contact their upstream to filter the IP address.

I completely agree with above poster that in case of DDOS attack upgrading is a bad option. There are scripts available to block moderate level DDOS attack, you should try them. Also RackSpace Cloud Hosting can be a better option. You see sometimes hosting companies cripple your server on purpose, they just want to get more money from you by upgrading to vps and dedicated hosting. If you are not sure if the attack was DDOS then recheck your scripts for loopholes, go through your site log, if you dont find anything wrong then fine but if you do find something wrong then you will need to correct your script first!

I say that dedicated ip you can find this for less and it is good to have it, definetely it is a plus. Todays most of VPS include a number of IPS , isnt it? Check this out!!!

VPS is a good choice per a large visitors number, but with another hosting company may be. The security loop hole is a prove that hosting company itself may not have enough secure policy and hardware configuration. I doubt the problem may still be persist even if you upgraded to a VPS or dedicated server.
