Most people on here know I like to check my facts and when paidhosting posted about 'about us' pages recently I thought I'd have a check up on his own directory and low and behold the dude's actually got a real good about us page. Not only that they've opened up the door to public stats by using Google Analytics. Cool.
Now, the 'about us' pages are becoming more important than the other pages. The Pheonix you can start a thread on 'Which directories have good about us pages ?'
My bad, I never hotlinked as I assumed most would have thier finger on the pulse and read most posts, especially the better ones, when paidhosting posted about 'about us' pages This OP is terribly sorry for that oversight. @amipatel; Thanks for pointing it out to britishguy I thought my post was clear enough? @iceberg; Maybe I will now that paidhosting has set an example.

Interesting point about the about page, maybe I need some myself but the original story, from what I read, looks like link baiting to me. JMO.

Anyways what original story ? @phoneix the link you gave to cantufind, talks about how to insert code in pages so google can track u, it does not talk about actually giving access to visitors to look at traffic details for a site , so my thunder remains with me, nice try though and good link bating hehe

To answer iceberg, i think this is also good example : http://botw.org/helpcenter/about.aspx I would have posted link to dmoz's about page too, but its has become a mockery these days and their about page does not reflect anything what dmoz stands for today. There might be more directories with good about us pages too, its just a matter of time before we find some good ones. Or when someone writes some nice about us page for their directories. Its not a necessity however for any directory.
Trouble with botw about us page Paidhosting is they start with a blatant lie, "The Internet's Oldest Directory" In truth they've only had a directory a few years, prior to that they were an award site nothing related to directories. Moral of the story is if your going to write an about us page be honest about it, don't lie. BOTW did this kind of thing with the awards thing, I remember it well, they gave the impression they were much bigger than they really were, mugs like me then submitted our sad first time designs and were well chuffed when we got that little cup. Then we were enticed into buying a 'membership' I even remember the little plastic card they sent me. I was so proud of that. (God how naive was I in them days. ). There probably are PH, yours was pretty unique mind, nice personal touch if I say so myself and even though you can be quite confrontational your about us page portrayed a 'REAL' picture of you, and that you just have to be respected for as you've set the standard for personal and honest 'about us' pages.
My about us page must be the page with the least text on it. It's just the sort of thing in the about us page as what I would put in a directory descriptions submission. Whooops. About Us pages are needed though no matter how big or small they are. Mine does get visitors looking at it plus you also will get a free listing in aboutus.org. or is it aboutus.com. Can't remember now.
With respect, I don't like paidhosting's about page, it has too much stuff which is too difficult to read.
It's a damn site better than yours syted, if them sites in your sig are yours. The point is that you don't have to read it all but the fact paidhosting is being transparent is testimony to how much he cares for his work and not just out to make a quick buck like some are.
Oh sorry about that Syted, i do warn people that its boring stuff on the page itself. So, ever man for himself and ever opinion to themselves. Its not a contest or anything just another additional page on a directory telling visitors the possible motive behind running the directory. Tip: Use FF it makes text appear better than IE for some odd reason and anyways i think i its better than having a under construction line there right ?
