    Don't drop it, tweak it...

What the people here seem to be saying is that they'd not pay for a forum where they could get everything for free elsewhere.

So make yourself a FREE forum! Put up ads for your guests (non-members) and then set up a few subscription levels.

Subscribed members should get bigger inboxes, larger avatars, and the like...

They should also get access to locked areas. Extra forums, better down loads, etc, etc...

Draw people in with something free, and offer more to those willing to pay.

Fairly good idea. If someone buys a lot of these free stuff on DP, then it is very valuable for 'em.

I'm sure you'll find some folks and a nice way to build your business.

Good luck. I might get back to you sometime, but not right now :).

I don't think I would just pay to access your forum, because I haven't seen whats inside it and I could just be setting myself up for a letdown... If I could see part of your forum and use that part and then maybe pay to use some other parts of the forum, I would consider that. Though I would probably prefer the option to pay say $6 for 6 months as well as $30 for ever, because that way there is a bit more flexibility.

Believe me, It's all about how good you are at selling goods, even though they are free anywhere else on the Net.

    1. Find unique content, great articles on the Net.
    2. Write your articles based on those found, so that they do not break the copyright law.
    3. Set up a Newsletter system which sell your stuff while it offers free samples of those articles or full article content for a short period (e.g. 3 days).
    4. Set up a subscription system so that everyone who wants to have access to the full content of the web must pay.

    Sell it smart.

I don't compliment this method as for selling stuff or/and using it as a way of making a living if the quality of content is, well... - below average - but: If you sell smart, you can even make good money with goods accessible on the Net for free.

So, you pay, have everything in one place and don't lose time on searching (the quality of the content not really have to be good/great) or you get it for free but spend much time on searching for it.

    As said above:

Yeah, also PM me when it opens :).

A idea: you could have a couple "freebies" to just give an idea of what is on your forum. That would probably interest people more than simply "paying blind" if you catch my drift

You have to build a user base before you can hope to charge people, since most will be skeptic of joining a new paid service/forum and in a way, rightfully so.

This idea will not work, in my opinion.
If you want to create revenue from your forum, take time and invest some effort in it at first before jumping on the money train.
The forum does not look professional, and that is a big minus to people who MIGHT be interested in it.

But maybe i might be wrong in the future ;)
    Good luck with it anyhow.

ehh... I am kinda sketchy about it now. Free hosting... Free phBB script... no members, and no other place to really write besides the place for upgraded members.
