Yesterday I asked if subdomains were considered as different domains and the most answeres I got were yes. I have another question regarding this. I could have put this question on the same thread but it is a bit more specific question so I chose to make another thread. Hope it is appropriate.

    Here is my question.

If you have a site selling old pcs, "oldcomputers.com" or something like that and your keywords are "old computers", and you also have a site "hp.oldcomputers.com" and your keywords are "hp old computers".
Let's say the difference is the hp.oldcomputeres.com site is selling specifically hp old computeres but still the keywords include "old computeres". Let's also say the both sites have similar structures and linked to each other.

In this case. is it possible to have 2 sites ranked on the top page on Google for the keywords "old computers"? And if yes, theoretically is it possible that the top page results for the serch of "old computeres" are all your sites with sbudomains? For example,

    Result of "Old computers"

    #1:"www.oldcomputeres.com"
    #2"compaq.oldcomputeres.com"
    #3"hp.oldcomputeres.com
    #4"mac.oldcomputres.com"

I know it's possible if you use completely different domains and maybe not linking to each other, or use different ips.

But is it possible to do this just using subdomains?
They are on the same servers, have similar structures, and the main domainname is same.... and they are linked to each other.

(I know if you have more sites then incoming links are dispersed. For example you could have 100 links for oldcomputers.com instead of 50 for oldcomputers.com and 50 for hp.oldcomputeres.com. And this means to get good results for both sites are difficult

This question is not about that but theoretically it's possible or not. i.e. If Google still thinks they are different sites. If it does, the above results are theoretically possible, isn't it?)

    Thanks

Yes... as long as they are seen as 2 different domains. I see frequently with our keywords. They cross over multiple subdomains within our main domain and I will sometimes get a main listing and an indented listed for our main domain as well as a main listing (and possibly an indented listing) for the subdomain.
