Hello Friends, I am very confused about Social Media optimization and Social Book Marking, i want to know that both are same or different.
Social media optimization (SMO) is a set of methods for generating publicity through social media, online communities and community websites. Methods of SMO include adding RSS feeds, social news buttons, blogging, and incorporating third-party community functionalities like images and videos. Social media optimization is related to search engine marketing, but differs in several ways, primarily the focus on driving traffic from sources other than search engines, though improved search ranking is also a benefit of successful SMO. Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to store, organize, search, and manage bookmarks of web pages on the Internet with the help of metadata, typically in the form of tags that collectively and/or collaboratively become a folksonomy. Folksonomy is also called social tagging, "the process by which many users add metadata in the form of keywords to shared content".
No, first of these are two totally different areas of marketing with one common goal, to drive traffic to a site or blog. Now, with bookmarking your main goal is to try to get your site bookmarked as many times as possible because it helps to drive traffic and get returning customers to your sites. Now with social media marketing, it as well is designed to bring in traffic, but takes a lot more time and interaction by you in order to become successful. Social Media Marketing includes things like Facebook, MySpace and networks like this.
