Why Google gives more relevancy to a home page instead of a dedicated landing page. Earlier my site was ranking for a landing page. Now it is ranking through home page.
A result of the Mayday change in the algorithm, perhaps? Seems that internal pages need to build up their own backlinks, whereas before other relevancy indicators could propel them up for long-tails
The homepage is usually considered the most important page of the site, which is why you want to target the most competitive keyword(s) on this page.
hmmm.. ranking of pages is also depends on link popularity of the page.. and since homepage receive more of the BLs it gets higher rankings than any pages of a site..
depends on how you built your website, check your internal links, words density in the internal pages, url links,.... Anything may affect
I do not think Google would give relevance and its important based on homepage only but "whole website" instead. Google used to judge based on individual page a long time ago until things changed. That's why deep link and inner pages ranking come with influence from domain authority.
I would suggest that you check title and description of your homepage and landing page. Title and description need to show that the homepage and landing page are about different topic.
Its not true in all cases. You easily can find some internal pages of some websites that are in top positions even for some competitive keywords.
I have a party rental business and if you search for some cities the homepage shows up. Other cities bring up internal pages. It's something I'm trying to figure out.
You use the term 'landing page'. . . interesting. Landing pages are normally spam, throw-away pages used to lure visitors and encourage AdSense clicks. If this is what your page is, there is your answer. If it is a well built page with quality content and lots of relevant BLs it can certainly outrank your home page. Wikipedia is a good example of that.
Lately... You might have been concentrating on promoting your home page more and so it might have started getting more back links... more than even your long existing landing page! Regards, RightMan
